CHAPTER 158.

AN ACT to add additional sub-sections to article
nineteen of the Public Local Laws of Somerset
county, title "License, " and sub-title "Retailers. "

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the following sub-sections be added,
to article nineteen of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Somerset county to follow sub-section five, which
was added by chapter four hundred and twenty-five
of the acts of eighteen hundred and seventy-four, to
wit:

Sub-sections.

SUB-SECTION 6. On and after the first day of Jan-
uary, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven, no malt,
vinous, spirituous or intoxicating liquors, or any
composition of which malt, spirituous, vinous or in-
toxicating liquors forms the chief ingredient, shall
be sold directly or indirectly, or knowingly per-
mitted to be sold, except such as shall be com-
pounded to be used as a medicine, or for mechanical
purposes, and except homemade wines, homemade
cider and homemade beer, within the limits of Prin-
cess Anne district, and Dublin district, and Hungary
Neck district of Somerset county, being election dis-
tricts number one, and number four, and number

five of said Somerset county; and any person viola-
ting the provisions of this act shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor, and on conviction shall be fined not
less than twenty nor more than fifty dollars, in the
discretion of the court for the first offence; and for a
second offence not less than fifty nor more than five
hundred dollars, and shall be imprisoned, in addi-
tion to the fine imposed, not less than ten nor more
than thirty days in the discretion of the court, and
for every subsequent offence the fine and imprison-
ment affixed to the last preceding offence shall be
doubled; and one half the fines shall go to to the in-
former, who shall be certified as such by the grand
jury making the presentment, and the other half to
the county for the uses of the public schools.

SUB-SECTION 7. On the day of the election in No-
vember, eighteen hundred and seventy-six, the
