CHAPTER 82.

AN ACT to preserve and define the harbor at Sal-
isbury, and the channel of Wicomico River, in
Wicomico county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That in order to preserve the navigation
of Wicomico River in Wicomico county, and secure
from encroachment a commodious harbor at the
Town of Salisbury, George W. Parsons, William
S. Gordy and Thomas Humphreys be, and they are
hereby appointed, commissioners to survey the said
river from the wharf of Henry Ruark, known as the
steamboat wharf, up to the bridges upon each branch
of said river at said town, or as far as they may
think necessary, and define and establish lines on
both sides of said river and its branches to said
bridges, to which wharves, buildings, and other im-
provements, from either shore, may be made and
erected.

To secure a
harbor

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said commis-
sioners, and each of them, before acting as such,
shall take and subscribe an oath before the Clerk of
the County Court, to discharge the powers entrusted
to them by this act in good faith, without prejudice
or partiality to any one interested; and shall appoint
one of their number or other competent person, to
make said survey, to whom they shall administer a
like oath, which oaths shall be annexed to and re-
turned with their report hereinafter provided for;

and the said commissioners may also appoint such
other assistants or laborers, and purchase such ma-
terials as they may find necessary for carrying out
the provisions of this act.

SEC. 3. And be, it enacted, That after giving such
notice as they may deem necessary, the said com-
missioners, or a majority of them, shall survey the
said river from the wharf designated, up said river
and its branches to said bridges, and cause a plat
and accurate delineation thereof to be made; and
shall establish a harbor or building line on both sides
of said river and its branches, and shall cause the
