before them respectively, the child or children of any pauper or
vagrant, or the child or children of lazy, indolent and worthless
free negroes, and bind them out as apprentices, agreeably to the
provisions of the acts to which this act is a supplement; Provided,
that the contract of apprenticeship so made shall be approved
and recorded agreeably to the sixth section of the said law. |

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly,
by the petition
of sundry inhabitants of Harford county, that the old road
leading from William Ashmore's mill to intersect the road leading
from Peach Bottom ferry to Baltimore, on the south side of Slate
Ridge, where the old road crosses said road, has been found to be
convenient and useful to the public, and praying that the same may
be made a public road, and that commissioners be appointed to survey
and lay out said road; and the same being reasonable, therefore, |

2. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
Joseph Scarborough, Sedgwick James and Josiah Slade, be and
they, or a majority of them, are hereby authorised and empowered
to lay out, survey, mark and bound, the old road, beginning at
William Ashmore's mill, and running thence so as to intersect the
road leading from Peach Bottom to Baltimore, on the south side of
Slate Ridge, where the old road now crosses said road, and to
straighten the same, if, in their judgement, they should deem it necessary;
Provided, that the said old road shall not be laid out or
straightened through the lands of any person or persons without
his, her or their consent, in writing, first had and obtained, and a
plot of said road, when surveyed and laid out, together with a certificate
of the courses of the same, shall be returned by the commissioners
aforesaid to the clerk of said county, to be by him recorded. |

3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That when a plot of
said road shall be
returned and recorded as aforesaid, it shall and may be lawful for
the levy court of said county, to levy upon the assessable property |
