that the Sun fire engine belonging to said town, as also other
engines in said town, can, by reason of their limited operations,
be of little or no use to extinguish a fire in or prevent from communicating
to three story or other high buildings, and have prayed
that an act may pass authorising the Sun fire company of Frederick-town,
in Frederick county, to raise by lottery a sum of money
for the purpose of purchasing a more adequate engine, for the better
security of the inhabitants of the said town; and the same being
considered reasonable and proper, therefore, |

2. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
Henry Steiner, Francis Mantz, Henry Bantz, George Creager,
senior, Lewis Wiltzshimer, Charles Schell, Jacob Medtard, George
Adam Ebert and Peter Burkhart, or a majority of them, be and
they are hereby authorised to propose a scheme of a lottery, for
raising the sum of eight hundred and seventy-five dollars for the
purpose aforesaid, and to sell and dispose of the tickets therein. |

proposed. |
3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said Henry
Steiner, Francis
Mantz, Henry Bantz, George Creager, senior, Lewis Wiltzshimer,
Charles Schell, Jacob Medtard, George Adam Ebert and Peter
Burkhart, before they proceed to the sale of any ticket or tickets
in said lottery, shall give and execute a bond to the state of
Maryland, in the penalty of seventeen hundred and fifty dollars,
conditioned, that they will well and truly apply the monies arising
therefrom, within three months after the drawing thereof, to the
payment of the prizes drawn therein to the adventurers to whom
they shall be due, and the necessary expenses incurred in the management
thereof, and the residue to the purchase of a fire engine
for the use of said town. |

4. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall
be lodged in
the clerk's office of Frederick county, to be there recorded, and
upon such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
for any breach or non-compliance with the condition
thereof. |

An Act to authorise a Lottery to raise a sum of money for building
a
Bridge over a Branch of Patuxent River at or near the
Mill of

1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for Charles Alexander Warfield, Brice
J. Gassaway, Thomas Worthington, James Ray, Richard Snowden,
John Crow and James H. Rawlings, or a majority of them,
to propose a scheme of a lottery for raising a sum of money, not
exceeding one thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose of the
tickets thereof; provided the said Charles Alexander Warfield,
Brice J. Gassaway, Thomas Worthington, James Ray, Richard
Snowden, John Crow and James H. Rawlings, or such majority of
them as shall undertake to act under this law, shall, before the
sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give their
bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of two thousand dollars,
conditioned, that they will well and truly apply so much of
the money arising therefrom, within six months after the drawing
of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers
for prizes drawn by them, and after deducting the necessary |
