to pay and discharge the balance due for the building the said
poor-house, that then it shall and may be lawful for the levy court
of Calvert county to levy a sum of money upon the assessable property
of the said county, sufficient to pay the said balance due for
the building the said poor-house, the said sum of money to be levied,
assessed and collected, in the same manner, and at the same
time, as other county charges. |

CHAP. XXI.
An Act to prevent the running at large of Swine in the Town of New
Winsor, in Frederick
County.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly,
by the petition
of Isaac Atlee, of Frederick county, that the running at large
of swine in the town of New-Winsor is very injurious; therefore, |

2. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for Isaac Atlee, or any person residing
in the said town of New-Winsor, to seize and impound any swine,
the property of any person in said town, that may be found going
at large in said town; and it shall be the duty of any such person
as
aforesaid, so seizing and impounding, immediately to set up notice
thereof in the most public places in said town for at least three days,
and to insert the marks and description of said swine in said notices,
and if the same are not reclaimed within three days after seizure
and impounding, and the expense of impounding and keeping, to
be allowed by a justice of the peace, to be paid, together with the
sum of seventy-five cents for every hog, that the same shall be publicly
sold by the person impounding the same, giving three days
notice, in writing, set up as aforesaid, of the time and place of such
sale, and the proceeds of such sale shall be first applied to the expense
of impounding and keeping said swine, and the surplus, if
any, shall be applied to the erecting or keeping in repair both houses
at the Sulphur Springs, in or near the said town of New-Winsor. |

of sundry inhabitants of the town of Bladensburgh, in Prince-George's
county, that the law passed at November session, seventeen
hundred and ninety-one, * to prevent swine from going at large
in the said town, has been found to be defective and inadequate to
effect the desired purpose; therefore, |

from and after the fifth day of March next, it shall and may be lawful
for all and every person or persons to kill or destroy any swine |
