CHAP. LXX.
An Act authorising a Lottery to raise a sum of money for the improvement
of the Streets of the City of Annapolis, and other

1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for James Williams, Absalom Ridgely,
William Alexander, John Barber, Joseph Sands, Lewis Neth, John
Shaw, Jonathan Pinkney, Frederick Grammar, Frederick Green,
John Muir and William Caton, of a majority of them, to propose
a scheme or schemes of a lottery for raising a sum of money, not
exceeding two thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets
thereof; provided, the said James Williams, Absalom Ridgely, William
Alexander, John Barber, Joseph Sands, Lewis Neth, John
Shaw, Jonathan Pinkney, Frederick Grammar, Frederick Green,
John Muir and William Caton, or such majority of them as shall
undertake to act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal
of any ticket or tickets in the said lottery, give their bond to the
state of Maryland, in the penalty of five thousand dollars, conditioned
that they will well and truly apply so much of the money
arising therefrom, within six months after deducting the necessary expenses
incurred in the said lottery, shall, within twelve months from the
time the drawing of the said lottery shall commence, cause the balance
of the money raised by the said lottery to be applied in improving
and repairing the streets of Annapolis, for depending the
dock of the said city, and also for the purchase of a fire-engine for
the use of the said city, in the best manner the said sum of money
will admit. |

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said James
Williams, Absalom
Ridgely, William Alexander, John Barber, Joseph Sands,
Lewis Neth, John Shaw, Jonathan Pinkney, Frederick Grammar,
Frederick Green, John Muir and William Caton, or such majority
of them as may act under this law, shall, before they act under this
law, lodge in the clerk's office of Anne-Arundel county, the bond so
as aforesaid to be given by them, there to be recorded, and upon
such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
against the obligor or obligors therein, or any of them, or their legal
representatives, for any breach or non-compliance with the condition
of the same. |

An Act relating to the Records in the Office of the Register of
Wills

Preamble. |
WHEREAS it has been represented to this general
assembly, by
the register of wills of Harford county, and certified by the orphans
court of said county, that the records in said office are in a
ruinous and imperfect state, and that a new record made from the
original papers in the said office would be of great utility; |

2. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for the justices of the orphans court in
Harford county, and they are hereby empowered and required, to
cause to be recorded from the original papers in said office, by the
register of wills of said county, in good leathern bound books, to |
