                APPENDIX——RESOLUTIONS.

court, one for the orphans court, and one for the levy court of each
county; and two for the court of appeals, one for the high court of
chancery, and two for the general assembly.


Treasurer authorised
to subscribe
for stock in certain
banks.
                                        No. 12.
    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he
is hereby authorised and directed, to subscribe for fourteen hundred
shares in the Farmers Bank of Maryland, for twelve hundred
shares in the Mechanics Bank of Baltimore, for two hundred and
fifty shares in the Baltimore and Frederick-town turnpike road
stock, for two hundred and fifty shares in the Baltimore and York
town turnpike road stock, and to pay the amount of the shares, so
subscribed, to the president and managers of the respective companies.

Appropriation for
erection of a penitentiary.

                            JUNE SESSION, 1809.
                                        No. 1.
    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is
hereby authorised and directed to pay unto the commissioners appointed
to superintend the erection of a penitentiary the sum of
five thousand dollars out of any unappropriated money in the treasury.

Fieldpiece to be
mounted, &c.
                                        No. 2.
    RESOLVED, That Captain James Clemson, under the direction
of the executive of the state, cause to be mounted an iron fieldpiece
belonging to the state, now lying at Liberty-town, in Frederick
county, and when mounted, and completed with all the necessary
apparatus, the executive to loan the same, as the property of
the state, to the company of artillerists commanded by Capt. James
Clemson, on the usual conditions, and to draw on the treasurer of
the western shore for the amount of the expense attending the

Half pay allowed
Thomas King.

                                        No. 3.
    WHEREAS Thomas King, belonging to the artillery company of
the city of Annapolis, and who has been a soldier in the revolutionary
war, and who was wounded therein, in discharging his duty
on this tenth day of June, has been so unfortunate as to lose his
right hand by the firing of a cannon, which entitles him to the peculiar
care of this state, and the said Thomas King having a family 
dependent on him for support, therefore, RESOLVED, That the
treasurer of the western shore pay immediately to the said Thomas
King, or to his order, the sum of fifty dollars, and a sum equal to
the half pay of a sergeant during his life, in quarterly payments,
to commence on this day.

Chancellor to examine
case of
Matthew Clark.

                    NOVEMBER SESSION, 1809.
                                        No. 1.
    RESOLVED, That the chancellor be and he is hereby authorised
and requested to examine the case of Matthew Clark, and to decide
thereon in the same manner as he would do if James Webb
had obtained a patent for the same in his life-time, and if in his
