No. 14.
WHEREAS the late destructive fire at Savannah, in
Georgia, has
reduced many of its unfortunate inhabitants to a situation of extreme
poverty and misery, the more so in consequence of the inclemency
of the season: And whereas every dictate of humanity
should prompt us to the assistance of our distressed fellow-citizens;
therefore, RESOLVED, That the governor of this state inform the
executive of the state of Georgia of our resolution to advance the
suffering inhabitants of Savannah the sum of two thousand dollars. |

RESOLVED, That the governor be and he is hereby
authorised and
empowered to draw on the treasurer of the western shore the sum
of two thousand dollars, for the relief of the suffering inhabitants
of the town of Savannah, and remit the same, in such manner as
he shall judge most for their benefit. |

No. 16.
RESOLVED, That the examiner-general of the eastern
shore take
possession of, and use as an office, one of the rooms in the court-house
at Easton on said shore, not now occupied as a public office,
or by the grand or petit juries. |

NOVEMBER SESSION, 1797.
No. 1.
RESOLVED, That the governor and council be requested
to procure
annually twenty-two copies of the laws of congress for the use
of the several courts of law and equity in this state, one copy
whereof shall be transmitted to the register in chancery, one to the
clerks of the general court for the western and eastern shores respectively,
and one to the clerk of each county court; and that the
governor and council be and they are hereby authorised to draw on
the treasurer for as much money as will be sufficient to defray the
expense of the same. |

No. 2.
RESOLVED, That Mr. George Murdock, Mr. Valentine
Brother
and Philip Thomas, or any two of them, be authorised, and they
or any two of them are hereby authorised and empowered, to purchase
an estate, in fee simple, for the use of this state, in ten acres
of land in Frederick county, on which certain stone barracks are
erected, and which ten acres of land have been surveyed and laid
off by Samuel Duvall, surveyor of said county; provided, that not
more than three hundred pounds current money be given for the
same. |

RESOLVED, That the governor of this state be and
he is hereby
authorised and requested to send to the executive of the different
states respectively an edition of Bacon's laws, Hanson's laws, and
the laws since that period, neatly bound, accompanied by a letter,
expressing the sense of the legislature as to the propriety and utility
of an interchange of laws. |
