System of testamentary
laws to
be laid before
general assembly.
                APPENDIX——RESOLUTIONS.

for the consideration of the legislature, a code of testamentary
laws:  And whereas the object of the said resolution has not been
attained:  And whereas the evils resulting from the want of such a
code are every increasing, and this general assembly being desirous
to carry into effect some general system upon this subject
during their present session; wherefore, RESOLVED, That Alexander
Contee Hanson, Chancellor of Maryland, be requested to lay
before this general assembly, for their consideration, such a system
of testamentary laws, and plan of administration thereof, as
in his judgment shall appear most just, wise and expedient.

Allowance therefor.     RESOLVED, That the general assembly will guaranty to the
chancellor a liberal and competent allowance for his time, talents
and labour, devoted to carrying into effect the foregoing resolution.

Money overpaid
by A. Rigdon to
be refunded him.
                                        No. 3.
    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to
Alexander Rigdon, or order, the sum of twenty-five pounds two
shillings and three-pence, with interest thereon from the fourteenth
of October seventeen hundred and eighty-five, it being the sum
appearing due to him upon the treasury books in consequence of
an overpayment made by him upon a purchase of land from the
intendant.

Appointment of
Senator of U. S.

                                        No. 4.
    RESOLVED, That Friday the ninth instant be appointed for the
election of one senator to represent this state in the senate of the
United States after the third day of March, seventeen hundred
and ninety-seven, to be a resident of the western shore, and the
person on the said shore having a majority of votes of all the attending
members of both houses, be declared to be duly elected to
represent this state in the senate of the of the United States for the term
of six years:  and that a commission issue to the said senator, appointed
as aforesaid, signed by the governor for the time being, or
in his absence by the presiding member of the council, in the following
words, to wit:  The legislature of Maryland reposing especial
confidence in your integrity and abilities, hath appointed you
senator to represent this state in the senate of the United States
for the term of six years, to commence on the fourth day of March,
seventeen hundred and ninety-seven.  Given under my hand, and the
seal of this state, this _____ day of _____, Anno Domini _____.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Commissioners to
settle and adjust
boundaries of
state, &c.

                                        No. 5.
    WHEREAS by a resolution passed at the last session of the general
assembly of Maryland, William Pinkney, William Cooke and
Philip Barton Key, Esquires, were appointed commissioners on
the part of this state, to meet such commissioners as may be appointed
for the same purpose by the commonwealth of Virginia, to
settle and adjust, by mutual compact the two governments,
the western and southern limits of this state, and the dividing
lines and boundaries between this state and the said commonwealth;
and also to settle and adjust as aforesaid any claim of this
state, or the said commonwealth, to territory within the limits of
the other:  And whereas the said William Pinkney is now absent
from this state, and the said William Cooke hath notified to this
general assembly that he cannot attend to the execution of the
above powers, RESOLVED, That Charles Carroll, of Carrollton,
and Jeremiah Townley Chase, Esquires, be and they are hereby
