CHAP. LVI.
An Act to authorise a Lottery in Frederick County. Lib.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly,
by the petition
of sundry inhabitants of Middle-town, and its vicinity, in Frederick
county, that they are exposed to great danger from fire, and
have prayed that an act may pass, authorising a lottery for raising
a sum of money for the purpose of purchasing a fire engine for the
use and safety of said town; and the same being considered reasonable
and proper, therefore, |

2. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
Frederick Stemple, Thomas Powell, Peter Shewman, Henry Stemple
and Samuel Shoup, or a majority of them, be and they are hereby
authorised to propose a scheme of a lottery for raising the sum
of four hundred dollars for the purpose aforesaid, and to sell and
dispose of the tickets therein. |

may be proposed. |
3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said Frederick
Stemple,
Thomas Powell, Peter Shewman, Henry Stemple and Samuel
Shoup, before they proceed to the sale of any ticket or tickets in
said lottery, shall give and execute a bond to the state of Maryland,
in the penalty of one thousand dollars, conditioned that they will
well and truly apply the monies arising therefrom, within three
months after the drawing thereof, to the payment of the prizes
drawn therein to the adventurers to whom they shall be due, and
the necessary expenses incurred in the management thereof, and
the residue to the purchase of a fire engine for the use of said
town. |

4. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall
be lodged in
the clerk's office of Frederick county, to be there recorded, and upon
such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
for any breach or non-compliance with the condition thereof. |

An Act to lay out and open a Road from the Delaware Line to intersect
the Rolling Road, in Queen-Anne's County.

WHEREAS sundry inhabitants of Queen-Anne's county,
by their
petition to this general assembly have set forth, that they sustain
great inconvenience from the want of a public road leading from
the Delaware state line to intersect a road called The Rolling
Road, in said county; therefore, |

3. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
William Larwood, Henry Covington, Thomas Harris, Hemsley
Massey and John Fogwell, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners,
to survey, lay out, clear and open, at the expense of
the petitioners, a road, not exceeding thirty feet wide clear of
ditches, from the Delaware state line at or near the Muddy Branch |
