INDEX TO THE LAWS.
No writ of error or appeal shall
be prosecuted on
any judgment or decree in the county court after three
years from the rendition thereof,
For crimes committed on the Chesapeake,
the trial
to be in the county where the person may be apprehended
or first brought,
The proceedings may be removed on suggestion,
&c. to the next adjoining county court,
The county courts empowered to issue
commissions
for marking and bounding lands held by lessees for life
or for years, where the unexpired term will amount to
twenty-one years or upwards,
The court to be satisfied that a person
is one of those
who profess to be conscientiously scrupulous of taking
an oath, before he is admitted to make his affirmation
as a juror,
The county courts not to hold plea
in cases within
the jurisdiction of justices of the peace, not exceeding
fifty dollars, except on writs before the first of May
then next,
On writs of habeas corpus the
person to be brought
before the proper court, judge, &c.
Any person committed, &c. may in vacation
complain to any judge of the county court, who may
award habeas corpus,
The judge, on refusal, made liable to the action
of the party injured,
Directions for the speedy trial or
discharge of persons
committed for treason or felony,
The duty of the county courts to give
in charge to
the grand jury the neglect of the clerk to pay monies
due on judgment to the state, being declared a misbehaviour
in office,

On conviction of murder, the court
to determine by
examination of witnesses the degree,
Sentence of death to be by hanging
by the neck,
The court may decide upon, ascertain
and declare,
the time within their respective periods prescribed,
during which any offender shall undergo confinement
in the penitentiary,
Directions as to the manner of trial
where a person is
stricken in one county and dies in another, or is stricken
on the Chesapeake bay, and dies in any county,
and the reverse,
