BANKS

            INDEX TO THE LAWS.

by transportation and sale, with the power given
to the governor by the act of 1785, ch. 82,

    So much of the act of 1795, ch. 27, as required that
not more two thirds of the directors of the Bank of Baltimore
in office, should be eligible for the ensuing year,
repealed; provided the consent of the stockholders
should be given and recorded,
    The treasurer of the western shore required to subscribe
on behalf of the state, 220 shares in the Bank of
Baltimore, part of the 600 reserved, and to pay the
amount thereof, and receive the dividends,
    Punishment of fraud, in directors, officers, &c.  See
Embezzlement.

    The Union Bank of Maryland incorporated, &c.

    Interest of the state, and power of the treasurer, in
certain banks.  See State.  Treasurer.
    The Farmers Bank of Maryland established at Annapolis,
and a branch at Easton,
—A branch thereof established at Frederick-town,
under the name of The Frederick-town Branch
Bank,

    The Mechanics Bank of Baltimore incorporated,
&c.

    The Hager's Town Bank incorporated, and established
at Elizabeth, (since called Hager's-town,) in
Washington county,
    The state directors in the Bank of Baltimore to have
all the privileges of other directors,

    The Elkton Bank of Maryland incorporated, and
established in Elkton, Cecil county, &c.

—The charter continued and extended,
    The Marine Bank of Baltimore incorporated,
    The Franklin Bank of Baltimore incorporated,
    The Commercial and Farmers Bank of Baltimore,
incorporated,
    The Farmers and Merchants Bank of Baltimore incorporated,
    Declared unlawful for any persons to associate for the
purpose of forming a banking company without an act
of incorporation,
—In case of such association, each person acting as
a commissioner, &c. to receive such subscription, to
forfeit 2000 dollars, one half to the informer and the
other to the county, to be recovered by action of debt,
—Any person, copartnership or body politic, subscribing
for shares, to forfeit 100 dollars in like manner,

    The Farmers Bank of Somerset and Worcester
incorporated, &c.

    The Cumberland Bank of Allegany incorporated,
   The several banks in this state authorised to loan to
the United States any sum not exceeding one third of its
capital actually paid in,
—All loans hitherto made declared valid as if made
with the consent of the legislature,
    An act to incorporate a company to make a turnpike
road leading from Fort Cumberland, and for the extension
of the several banks in this state, &c.
