INDEX TO THE LAWS.
The inspectors of the penitentiary,
or any three of
them, empowered to bind as apprentices, the free male
convicts, whose time shall expire before they are of
age;
any free female convicts till sixteen, whose time of
service
shall expire before they are of that age; the children
of female convicts, born during their times of service;
males till twenty-one, and females till sixteen,
The indentures to be recorded in the orphans court
of Baltimore county,
Deeds of apprenticeship in cases of
German or Swiss
Redemptioners to be drawn, &c. by the registers as
therein directed See Redemptioners.
The time prescribed for the recovery
of compensation
on apprentices absconding, extended to five instead of
three years,
The orphans courts authorised to bind
out the children
of free negroes or mulattoes,
The parents to be first summoned, &c.
Authorised for the penitentiary,
An annual appropriation of 500 dollars
for executing
the supplement to the act for the speedy conveyance of
public letters,
An approver shall never be admitted in any case whatsoever,
Col. GeorgePlate belonging to his
estate, presented
by the citizens of Baltimore, exempted from taxation,
May be appointed by commandants of
regiments to
keep and arrange the arms, &c.
Penalty on officers refusing or neglecting
to arm, &c.
according to the act of Congress,
On non-commissioned officers or privates having
arms, &c. appearing in the ranks without them in
serviceable
order,
Brigade inspectors required to make
returns of arms,
&c. yearly to the adjutant general,
Manner of compelling the delivery
of state arms, (not
held by a person as a member of a volunteer company,)
and penalty on refusal to deliver them,
Arms to be delivered to uniformed
companies, on
bond,
To be purchased with money in the hands of paymasters,
after defraying expences,
Directions for having arms deposited,
given out for
parade, and returned, &c.
Penalty on selling arms, &c. believed
to be the property
of the state,
Non-commissioned officers and matrosses
in the artillery,
and dragoons in the cavalry, to arm, &c.
The arms, horse, &c. to be held exempt from all
suits, executions and taxes,
Arms to be loaned by the governor to such corps
and riflemen when organized, &c.
Portions of the militia to be armed
by the governor
when most exposed to invasion or insurrection,
Non-commissioned officers and privates
to give receipts
for arms; directions for keeping arms in order;
appearing with them at musters, and for their inspection,
Arms to be delivered upon removal,
Provision for inspecting arms and
