                                LAWS OF MARYLAND.

service of such boat or vessel, to be careful in the discharge of any
ballast of such boat or vessel, so that this act shall not be violated,
and if it shall appear that this act hath been violated, from the
negligence of the owner, commander, or person having charge of
any boat or vessel as aforesaid, such person may be fined as aforesaid.

                                          CHAP. CLIV.
An Act to incorporate a Company for the purpose of building a Bridge
    over the North West Branch of Nanticoke River, at a place heretofore
    called Crotcher's Ferry, but now known and called The
    Rising Sun.

Preamble.     WHEREAS, it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition
of a number of inhabitants of Dorchester county, the convenience
of the public would be greatly promoted by erecting a
bridge over the North West Branch of Nanticoke River, and praying
that a law may pass to incorporate a company for erecting a
bridge over the said North West Branch of said river; therefore,
Commissioners appointed
to receive 
subscriptions.
    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
Thomas Ennalls, Joseph Nichols, Francis Turpin, Ezekiel Wheatly,
John Brohown, Minos Adams, William S. Harper, John Shehee,
William Wheatly ad John Cropper, be and they are hereby appointed
commissioners, with full power and authority to open, or
cause to be opened, a book for receiving and entering subscriptions
for raising a capital stock not exceeding five thousand dollars, to
be divided into two hundred and fifty shares, each share to be
twenty dollars, for the purpose of building a bridge over the North
West Branch of Nanticoke River, at a place called The Rising
Sun.
When seventy
shares are subscribed,

incorporated.
    2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That whenever seventy shares of said
stock shall be subscribed for, all persons who may then be, or
thereafter may become, the actual proprietor of shares in the said
capital stock, either as subscribers for the same, or as the legal representatives,
successors or assignees, of such subscribers, shall be
and they are hereby made and created a body politic and corporate,
by the name and style of The President and Directors of the
Rising Sun Bridge Company, and by that name may sue and be
sued, plead and be impleaded.
Stockholders to
meet to elect directors.
    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That as soon as seventy shares of the
said stock be subscribed, the said commissioners, or any five of
them, shall call a meeting of the stockholders, who shall proceed
in person, or by proxy appointed for that purpose by writing, subscribed
by such stockholder, and attested by one or more witnesses,
to the election, by ballot, of seven directors; and the said directors
shall elect one of their number to act as president, who shall, with
the directors, continue in office one year, and until a new election for
directors shall thereafter be made; and the said stockholders shall
and may, on the first Monday in June next, and on the first Monday
in June in every year thereafter, elect, by ballot, from among
the stockholders, seven persons as directors, and the president and
directors for the time being, shall give public notice for a new election
at least ten days previous to the expiration of the time for
which they were elected; and in case it should so happen that an
election of the directors should not be made on the first Monday
