upon the death, resignation, or removal from the county, of any
one of the trustees, appoint another person of the said county to be
a trustee to fill the vacancy created by the death, resignation, or
removal as aforesaid.

CHAP. 223.

    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said trustees, and their successors,
or a majority of them, shall have full power and authority
to make ordinances or by-laws for the government of the institution
aforesaid, and the education of the pupils, and to appoint such person
or persons, as they or a majority of them may think proper, to
be teacher or teachers of said institution.

    4.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said trustees, and their successors,
or a majority of them, shall meet at least twice in each
year at such times as shall be appointed by their own ordinances, in
order to examine the progress of the scholars, and to hear and determine
on all complaints and appeals, and all matters touching the
discipline of the academy, and the good and wholesome execution of
their ordinances, on all which occasions a majority at least of the
trustees shall be capable to act.

    5.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said trustees, and their successors,
may hold and enjoy, and be capable in law of taking, holding
and enjoying, all lands, tenements, rents, annuities and pensions,
of the gift of any person whatsoever, who may be willing to bestow
them, for the use of the institution aforesaid, or any other gifts,
grants, legacies, or donations whatsoever, for the use and benefit of
said institution, provided the same do not exceed in yearly value
the sum of one thousand dollars.

An Act to Incorporate a Company for erecting a Bridge over Nanticoke
    River, at or near Vienna, in Dorchester County.

Passed Feb. 16, 1818.
    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
Edward Austin, Peter Dashiell, Esme M. Waller, George D. Atkinson,
Doctor Thomas Robertson, junior, of Somerset county,
and Robert Dennis, Doctor William Jackson, Thomas Pitt, Richard
Tootell, and John C. Henry (a), of Dorchester county, be and
they are hereby appointed commissioners to do and perform the
several duties hereinafter mentioned; that is to say, they, or any
two of them, shall and may, on or before the fifteenth of April (b),
procure one or more books, as they shall think necessary, and enter
therein as follows, to wit:  " We whose names are hereunto subscribed,
do promise to pay to the president, directors and company,
for erecting a bridge over Nanticoke river, at or near Vienna,
in Dorchester county, the sum of one dollar at the time of subscribing,
and two dollars every thirty days thereafter, until five
dollars be paid on every share of stock in said company set opposite
our respective names, and the balance in such instalments, not
exceeding five dollars on each share, at such times as the directors
may deem proper, giving thirty days notice;" and shall thereupon
proceed to receive subscriptions for the stock of the said company.

    (a)  By 1818, ch. 176, additional commissioners are appointed.
    (b)  By 1818, ch. 176, the time is extended to the 1st of January 1820.
