            JOHN FRANCIS MERCER, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

    11.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said levy court, at their said
sitting next after the passage of this act, shall appoint a fit and proper
person to collect and receive the tolls at each of the said toll-gates,
and to see that the toll-gates are duly repaired, and may
from time to time, at their discretion, remove such person or persons,
ana appoint some other fit and proper person or persons in
his or their place or stead; and the person or persons so appointed
as aforesaid to receive the tolls, shall account upon oath or affirmation
with the said levy court, on the first Tuesday in October next,
and on the first Tuesday in October annually thereafter, or oftener
if required by the said levy court, for all monies by him or them
received in virtue of this act; and the said levy court may allow to
each person appointed to receive the tolls aforesaid a sum of money not
exceeding three hundred dollars annually, for his care and trouble in
the execution of his office; and the said levy court are hereby directed
and required to take bond, in the penalty of five hundred dollars,
to the state of Maryland, with such security as the levy court shall approve,
conditioned for the due and faithful performance of the duties
of his office, rendering an account as aforesaid, and the payment
of the monies by him received; and in case any person appointed
as aforesaid to collect the tolls shall neglect or refuse to
account for the same, and pay the whole of the monies by him received,
as is by this law directed, it shall and may be lawful for
the justices of Baltimore county court, upon motion of, and at the
instance and on behalf of, the said levy court, to direct judgment
to be entered against such collector of the tolls, and his securities,
upon the bond by him and them given as aforesaid, for the penalty
thereof, to be released upon the payment of such tolls wherewith
the said collector shall be chargeable by this act, with a deduction
of an allowance to be made as aforesaid, and the said court may
thereupon award execution against such collector, and his securities,
provided he or they have had ten days notice previous to the
term at which such motion shall be made, of the intention of the 
justices of the said levy court to move for such judgment.

    12.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said persons, so appointed
to receive the tolls as aforesaid, shall pay over to the supervisor of
the said turnpike roads, on the first Monday of every month, the
monies received by them respectively for tolls, and take a receipt
therefor from the said supervisor, which they shall exhibit as a 
voucher for so much money as is therein specified, and upon the
settlement of their accounts with the said levy court shall be allowed
the amount expressed therein.

    13.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of the supervisor
appointed in virtue of this act, to report on the first Tuesday
of October next, and on that day annually thereafter, or
oftener if required, to the said levy court, a correct list of the
number of criminals received to work upon the said turnpike
roads, specifying their names, and the number of years for which
they are severally sentenced to serve, the number of carts, wagons,
horses, mules and oxen, employed on the said turnpike roads, also
of the tools made use of, and of all other things appertaining to the
working upon said turnpike roads.

    14.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the supervisor to be appointed
by virtue of this act, on or before the first Tuesday of October annually,
