                                LAWS OF MARYLAND.

                                        CHAP. CLXXXII.
An Act authorising a Lottery to raise a sum of money for building
a Masonic Hall in Elkton, Cecil County.

                                                A Supplement, 1817, ch. 27.

Lottery authorised.     1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
James Sewall, George Peacock, Adam Whann, John Sample,
Alexander Scott, Benjamin Bowen, Tobias Rudulpa, Andrew C.
Smith, John T. Veazey, John H. Davidson, and William H.
Ward, or a majority of them, be and they are hereby authorised
to propose a scheme or schemes of a lottery or lotteries, and to
sell and dispose of the tickets in the city of Baltimore, or in any
other part of the state, for raising a sum of money not exceeding
three thousand dollars (a), for the purpose of purchasing a lot of
ground, and erecting thereon a masonic hall, in Elkton, Cecil
county.

                        (a)  By 1817, ch. 27, increased to 10,000 dollars.

Managers to give
bond.
    2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That before the said James Sewall,
George Peacock, Adam Whann, John Sample, Alexander Scott,
Benjamin Bowen, Tobias Rudulph, Andrew C. Smith, John T.
Veazey, John H. Davidson and William W. Ward, proceed to
make sale of any ticket or tickets in said lottery or lotteries, they
shall give bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of six
thousand dollars
(b), conditioned that they will well and truly conduct
the drawing of said lottery or lotteries, and within sixty days
after the drawing thereof, apply so much of the money arising
therefrom as may be necessary to the payment of the prizes drawn
therein, to the adventurers to whom they may be due, and the necessary
expenses incurred in the management thereof, and conditioned
also for the faithful application of the sum received by them
out of the said lottery, to the uses and purposes herein before mentioned,
and according to the true intent and meaning of this act.

                                (b)  To be 20,000 dollars, by 1817, ch. 27.

Bond to be lodged
in clerks' office.
    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall be given to
and in the name of the state of Maryland, and lodged in the office
of the clerk of Cecil county, and upon said bond, or an authenticated
office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted for any
breach or non-compliance with the condition thereof.
Vacancies how to
be filed.
    4.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That upon the refusal or neglect of
any of the above named managers to execute the trust in him or
them reposed, the vacancy may be filled by the remaining managers.

                                 CHAP. CLXXXIII.
An Act for the benefit of Eli Tarr, of Worcester County.  Lib. TH.
                                     No. 5, fol. 332.
Levy authorised
for his support.
    BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
the justices of the levy court of Worcester county shall be, and
they are hereby directed and empowered, at their levy court annually,
so long as they shall see cause, to assess and levy on the
assessable property of said county, a sum of money not exceeding
thirty dollars, for the support and maintenance of Eli Tarr, of
said county, and that the same be collected annually by the collector
of said county, and paid to the said Eli Tarr, or his order.
