CHAP. CII.
A Supplement to an act* respecting a Monument or Statue to the memory
of Washington. Lib. TH., No. 4, fol. 585. |
Lot appropriated
for battle monument. |
1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
the square of ground in the city of Baltimore heretofore appropriated
for the erection of a monument or statue to Washington, and
not adopted by the managers for the building of said monument as
the permanent site for the same, be and the same is hereby appropriated
for the erection of a monument known by the name of The
Battle Monument, to be erected to the memory of those who fell in
defence of Baltimore on the twelfth and thirteenth of September
eighteen hundred and fourteen. |
Vested in mayor
and city council. |
2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That after the completion
of said monument,
the same shall be and is hereby vested in the mayor and
city council of Baltimore for the use of said city. |

CHAP. CIII.
An Act to authorise the drawing of a Lottery to raise a sum of money
for the purpose of building a Bridge over Britin's Bay
in Saint-Mary's

1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for Enoch J. Millard, Doctor William
Thomas, Philip Ford, H. G. S. Key and Lewis Ford, or a majority
of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery for raising a sum of
money, not exceeding five thousand dollars, and sell and dispose of
the tickets in said lottery, and they are hereby authorised to draw
said lottery; provided, that the said Enoch J. Millard, Doctor William
Thomas, Philip Ford, H. G. S. Key and Lewis Ford, or such
majority of them as shall undertake to act under this law, shall before
the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give
their bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of twenty thousand
dollars, conditioned that they will well and truly apply so
much money arising therefrom within twelve months after the drawing
of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy the fortunate
adventurers for prizes drawn by them, and after deducting the expenses
incurred in said lottery, shall within two years from the
time of the drawing said lottery shall commence, apply the money
raised by said lottery for the purpose of building the bridge aforesaid. |

in clerk's office. |
2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the
duty of said commissioners,
or a majority of them, before they act as such, to lodge
the bond made and entered into as aforesaid, in the office of the clerk
of Saint-Mary's county court, there to be recorded, and upon such
bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
against the obligors therein mentioned, or any of them, or their
legal representatives, for any breach or noncompliance with the
conditions of the same. |
Vacancies, how to
be supplied. |
3. AND BE IT ENACTED, That in case any vacancy
or vacancies
shall occur by the death, resignation, removal, or refusal to serve,
of any of said commissioners, then and in that case it shall and may
be lawful for the said board to make choice of any person or persons
to fill said vacancy or vacancies. |
