CHARLES RIDGELY, OF HAMPTON, ESQ. GOVERNOR

and carriages on the right hand side of the said road in the
passing direction, leaving the other side free and clear for other
travellers and carriages to pass and repass; and if any driver shall
offend against this provision, he shall forfeit and pay not exceeding
ten dollars to any person who shall be obstructed in his passage and
may warrant for the same, to be recovered before any justice of
the peace of the county where such obstruction shall happen.

CHAP. 99.

    28.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That it may and shall be lawful for
any corporation or body politic in the United States to become subscribers
for stock in said company, in the same manner as individuals
may become subscribers and stockholders therein, and transfers
of stock in said company, may be made by corporations or bodies
politic of their stock in said company in such manner as the 
said company shall and may from time to time by their by-laws direct
and appoint.

    29.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be lawful for the president
and managers of said company, provided the whole amount
of shares of capital stock shall not have been taken and subscribed
for during the three days attendance by the commissioners as aforesaid,
for the purpose to nominate one or more persons, who shall
hereby be authorised to take the subscription books tot he house or
houses of individuals, or meetings of bodies corporate and politic,
and take in subscriptions for shares in said capital stock until the
whole sum of four hundred thousand dollars shall have been taken
in and subscribed for upon the same terms, and under the same provisions
as herein before provided for; Provided nevertheless, that no
such subscriber shall be liable for the penalty provided for in cases
of nonpayment, unless the president and managers shall cause at
least thirty days notice to be given in some public newspaper in the
county where such subscriber or subscribers nay respectively reside.

Proviso.

    30.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be lawful for the president
and managers aforesaid to compound with the levy court of the
county through which any old road passes over which the said turnpike
road may run, in the same manner as is provided for in the
act*, entitled, An act to incorporate companies to make several turnpike
roads through Baltimore county, and for other purposes, and
the several supplementary acts thereto.

    31.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That if the said company shall not
commence making said road in the manner herein before directed,
within three years, and complete the same within ten years from
the passage of this act, that this law shall cease and be null and
void.

An Act to incorporate a Company to make a Turnpike Road from the
    Baltimore and Frederick Turnpike, at or near the fifty-fifth mile
    stone west of Middle-Town, to the Potomac River, near McShan's
    Ferry.  Lib. TH. No. 4, fol. 581.

Passed Jan. 17, 1816.
    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
a company shall be incorporated to make a turnpike road from
Baltimore and Frederick, at or near the fifty-fifth mile-stone west
of Middle-town, to the Potomac river, near McShan's ferry.
