1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
Jacob Landes, William P. Farquahar, Christian Smith, Evan
McKinstry, Charles Franklin, James Clemson and Paul Mauree,
of Frederick county, or a majority of them, be and they are hereby
authorised to propose a scheme of a lottery to raise a sum of
money not exceeding three thousand dollars, clear of all expenses,
to be appropriated to the repairing the road from Paul Hawk's
church to the intersection of the Baltimore road near Charles
Franklin's tavern, that they, or any three of them, are hereby authorised
to sell and dispose of the tickets in said lottery; provided
that the said Jacob Landes, William P. Farquahar, Christian
Smith, Evan McKinstry, Charles Franklin, James Clemson and
Paul Mauree, or any three or more of them, before they proceed
to make sale of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, shall give and
execute a bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of seven
thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well and truly conduct
the drawing of said lottery, and that they will apply the money
arising therefrom, within two months after the drawing thereof, to
the payment of the prizes drawn therein to the adventurers to
whom the same may be due, and the necessary expenses incurred
in the management thereof, be applied to the repairing the aforesaid
road. |

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall
be lodged in
the clerk's office of Frederick county, to be there recorded, and
upon such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
against the obligors therein, or any of them, or their or
any of their legal representatives, for any breach or non-compliance
with the conditions of the same. |

a company shall be incorporated to make a turnpike road from the
lower ferry on Susquehanna river, in Cecil county, in the nearest
and best direction to Charles-town, and from thence till it intersects
the Elkton and Christiana turnpike road. |
