                                        CHAP. CIV.
An Act relating to Apprentices.  Lib. TH. No. 4, fol. 361.

    1814.

CHAP. 104.

Passed Jan. 30, 1815.

    BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
the inspectors (a) of the penitentiary of this state, or any three of
them, shall have power to bind as apprentices, the free male convicts
whose times of labour in that institution shall expire before
they are of age, and they are further empowered, in their discretion,
to bind as an apprentice until the age of sixteen years, any free
female convict whose term of service shall be ended before they
have attained that age, and also to bind as apprentices the children 
of female convicts born during their time of service, the males until
twenty-one, and females until sixteen years of age; and the indentures
or contracts of apprenticeship so made, shall be recorded in
the orphans court of Baltimore county within the time and under
the like penalties, as are prescribed for recording other indentures
of apprenticeship.

        (a)  By 1817, ch. 72, they are styled Directors of the Penitentiary.

                                        CHAP. CV.
An Act for the support of James Upton, James Catterton and Clare
                        Slone.

Passed Jan. 30, 1815.
    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
the justices of the levy court of Baltimore county shall and they
are hereby empowered, at their next levy, and at their levy court
annually, during the life of the said James Upton, to levy on the
assessable property of said county the sum of thirty dollars for the
support of the said James Upton, and that the same be collected annually
by the collector or the collectors of Baltimore county, and
paid to the said James Upton, or to his order.

    2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the justices of the levy court of
Calvert county be and they are hereby authorised and directed, to
assess and levy annually, on the assessable property of said county,
the sum of twenty-five dollars, for the support and maintenance
of James Catterton of said county, and that the same be collected
annually by the collector of said county, and paid to the said James
Catterton, or his order, in quarterly payments.

of James Catterton.
    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the justices of the levy court of
Saint-Mary's county shall be and they are hereby authorised and
directed, to assess and levy annually on the assessable property of
said county, a sum of money not exceeding thirty dollars, for the
support and maintenance of Clare Stone, and that the same be collected
annually by the collector of said county, and by him paid to
the said Clare Stone, or her order.

it shall and may be lawful for the assayer appointed under the provisions
of the act to which this is a supplement, to assay, mark or
stamp, any silver vessel or vessels, plate or manufacture of silver
whatsoever, over the weight of five pennyweights, which shall be
