An Act authorising a Lottery to raise a sum of money for building
a
Masonic Hall, in the City of Baltimore, and to repeal
the Acts of
Assembly therein mentioned. Lib. TH. No. 3,

Preamble. |
WHEREAS a petition hath been presented to this general
assembly,
by John Crawford, Peter Galt and Abraham Larsh, officers of
the Grand Lodge of Masons in Maryland, on behalf of themselves
and those under their jurisdiction, stating that an act of the general
assembly was heretofore passed, authorising the raising a sum
of money by lottery for the purpose of erecting a Masonic Hall in
the city of Baltimore; that several supplements have been passed
to said law, but the same are found inadequate to the purposes intended;
and praying that a law may be passed authorising the raising
a sum of money by lottery for the purposes aforesaid, therefore, |

proposed. |
1. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That
John Crawford, Tobias E. Watkins, Peter Little, Peter Galt,
Abraham Larsh, jun. Samuel Moale, Edward J. Coale, George
Winchester, William Greetham, Solomon Etting, James Barroll,
William Steuart, John Ogston, Jacob Small, George Keyser, Edward
Palmer, William Camp, William McDonald, Isaac Dickson,
Joseph K. Stapleton, Edward G. Woodyear, Beale Randall,
Charles Wirgman, Thomas Sweeting and Jonathan Meredith, or a
majority of them, be and they are hereby authorised to propose a
scheme or schemes of a lottery or lotteries, and to sell and dispose
of the tickets, as well in the city of Baltimore as in any other part
of the state, clear of the city taxes, any law to the contrary notwithstanding,
for raising a sum of money not exceeding fifty thousand
dollars, for the purpose of purchasing a lot of ground, and
erecting thereon a Masonic Hall, in the city of Baltimore. |

2. AND BE IT ENACTED, That before the said
John Crawford,
Tobias E. Watkins, Peter Little, Peter Galt, Abraham Larsh,
jun. Samuel Moale, Edward J. Coale, George Winchester, William
Greetham, Solomon Etting, James Barroll, William Steuart,
John Ogston, Jacob Small, George Keyser, Edward Palmer, William
Camp, William McDonald, Isaac Dickson, Joseph K. Stapleton,
Edward G. Woodyear, Beale Randall, Charles Wirgman,
Thomas Sweeting and Jonathan Meredith, proceed to make sale of
any ticket or tickets in said lottery or lotteries, they shall give
bond in the penalty of one hundred thousand dollars, conditioned
that they will well and truly conduct the drawing of said lottery
or lotteries, and within sixty days after the drawing thereof, apply |
