CHAP. 191.

                                LAWS OF MARYLAND.

Simpson, and John B. Morris, or a majority of them (a), on the
first Monday of May next, and as often thereafter in the said
commissioners may determine (b), and that the said stockholder, so
as aforesaid subscribing, and their heirs and assigns, are hereby
declared to be incorporated into a company by the name of The
Zachia Canal Company, and as such may sue and be sued, and
frame all such by-laws as may be necessary, and to exercise and
enjoy all the rights, benefits and immunities, with which the said
corporation may be vested by any future general assembly of
Maryland.

    (a)  By 1814, ch. 121, any five to be a quorum; and by 1816, ch. 269, other
commissioners appointed in the place if those who are dead, &c.
    (b)  The commissioners may appoint the periods and places necessary for receiving
subscription.  See 1816, ch. 269.

Corporation may
propose scheme of
a lottery.
    2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall and may be lawful for
the said corporation to propose a scheme of a lottery, for raising
such sum of money as may be necessary to aid in the purposes
aforesaid, provided the sum so to be raised does not exceed the
sum of thirty thousand dollars (c), and to sell and dispose of the
tickets therein; Provided, the managers for the time being, or a
majority of them, shall, before the sale of any ticket or tickets in
said lottery, give bond to the state of Maryland in the penalty of
sixty thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well and truly
apply the monies arising therefrom, within twelve months after the
drawing thereof, to the payment of the prizes drawn by adventurers
in the said lottery, and the necessary expenses incurred in the
management thereof, and the residue to the objects aforesaid,
which the said corporation, or their successors, are hereby authorised
to direct and superintend.

            (c)  By 1816, ch. 262, the sum not to exceed 50,000 dollars.

Bond to be lodged
in clerk's office.
    3.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said bond shall be lodged in
the clerk's office of Charles county, to be there recorded, and upon
such bond, or an office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted
against the obligors therein, or any of them, or their or any of
their legal representatives, for any breach or noncompliance with
the conditions of the same.

An Act to incorporate a bank, to be called by the name of The Farmers
    Bank of Somerset and Worcester.

Amount of capital.     1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
the capital of this bank shall consist of two hundred thousand dollars,
divided into shares of one hundred dollars.

                    By 1814, ch. 67, a branch established at Salisbury, &c.

Commissioners appointed
to open
books for subscriptions.
    2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That books of subscription for one
thousand shares of the said capital, shall be opened at Princess-Anne,
under the direction of George W. Jackson, George Handy,
senior, Henry J. Carroll, Arnold E. Jones, Levin Pollitt (of Pocomoke,)
William Williams, Zadok Long, senior, and John Stewart;
