of the said capital stock shall be valid, unless it be made on the
books of the company, and in such manner as the president and 
directors, or a majority of them shall appoint; and every person or
persons having so transferred or assigned the whole of his, her or
their interest and stock in the said company, shall thereafter cease
to be a member or members of the said company, to all intents and
purposes.

CHAP. 143.

    14.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the president and each director,
before he enters upon the duties of his office, shall take the following
oath or affirmation, (as the case may be:)  " I _____, do solemnly swear
or affirm, that I will impartially, faithfully, diligently and honestly,
execute the duties of _____, conformably to the provisions of this act,
and the trusts reposed in me, to the best of my skill and judgment;"
and the clerks, book-keepers, and other officers, shall also take a
similar oath or affirmation, and shall besides give bond with security
to the satisfaction of the president and directors, for the faithful
discharge of their duties in their respective stations.

                                 CHAP. CXLVI.
An Act to make public a Road in Charles and Saint-Mary's Counties.

    WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly by the petition
of sundry inhabitants of Charles and Saint-Mary's counties,
that it will promote the convenience of the inhabitants of said counties
to open and make public a road therein mentioned, and praying
that the same may be made a public road; and the prayer thereof
appearing reasonable, therefore,
Preamble.
    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That 
Walter Dyson, Charles K. Love, and Luke White Barber, be and
they are hereby appointed commissioners, and they, or a majority
of them, are hereby authorised and empowered, to review the old
private road beginning at the road leading from Newport to Chaptico,
near Dr. Wilson Compton's, in Charles county, and passing
thence through the lands of Wilson Compton, Edward Diment, and
Commissioners

out, mark and
bound, a certain
