                                LAWS OF MARYLAND.

passed November session eighteen hundred and five*, in consequence
of objections filed by his creditors, all of which he was
acquitted, except the one charging him with giving preference; although
this charge was substantiated, yet it was the opinion of the
jury that there was no criminal intention; therefore,

Sheriff directed to
release him from

confinement.
    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the sheriff of Somerset county be, and he is hereby directed to release
the body of the said William Pollitt, junior, from confinement.
Entitled to benefit
of insolvent
laws.
    2.  AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said Pollitt be entitled to the
benefit of the insolvent law, passed November eighteen hundred and
five, and the several supplements thereto, should no other inhibition
than the alleged charge of preference be proven.

                                            CHAP. XVI.
An Act to authorise and empower the Levy Court of Anne-Arundel
    County, to assess and levy a sum of money for the support and
    maintenance of Clarissa Smith.

for her support.
    BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the levy court of Anne-Arundel county be, and they are hereby directed
and empowered, at their levy court annually, to assess and
levy on the assessable property of said county, a sum of money not
exceeding thirty dollars, for the support and maintenance of the
said Clarissa Smith, and that the same be collected annually, by the
collector or collectors of Anne-Arundel county, and paid to the said
Clarissa Smith, or to her order.

                                              CHAP. XVIII.
An Additional Supplement to an act , entitled, An act to establish a
    Market, and to build a Market-House in the Western Precincts of
    Baltimore, and for the regulation of the same.

Commissioners to
rent out stalls, &c.
for any time not
exceeding twelve

months.
    1.  BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
it shall and may be lawful for the commissioners (a) of the said
market house, to lease or rent out, from time to time, for any period
not exceeding twelve months, the benches or stalls under the
sheds, and without the shambles of said market, for such sum or
compensation as they may think proper to contract for, and the
person or persons renting or taking such benches or stalls, shall be,
for the time the same shall or may be rented by him, her or them
respectively, entitled to the exclusive use and benefit thereof, without
the interruption of any person whomsoever, subject however, to
such rules and regulations in relation thereto, as may be adopted
by the said commissioners; the proceeds arising by the renting of
the said benches or stalls, to be applied to the use of the said market,
in the same manner as the fines, forfeitures and shamble-rents of
the said market are directed to be applied by the act to which this
is an additional supplement.

    (a)  By 1817, ch. 148, all the powers, &c. granted to the commissioners herein
mentioned, are vested in the mayor and city council of Baltimore.

    2.  BE IT ENACTED, That the acts and proceedings of the persons
who have acted as commissioners of the western precincts
