To the plts great losse and damage to the quantity of One hundred and twelve like Conditioned hides, and here
upon brings his suit. Sangster pr Quere. pld. prsois// Jno. Doe

And the defendant pleads Satisfaction
Edward: Jones.
Then was these following Bills produced in Court, with a receipt as followeth

Know all men by these presents that I James: Berry of the County of Somerset and Province of Maryland
Tanner my Heirs, Execcutors, Admrs am holden and firmly bound to pay or cause to be paid to Peter
Whaples of the same County and Province aforesd Cordweiner, his Heirs, Execcutors or Assigns or lawfull
Agent, the full and just quantity of fifty Six good slaughter hides all to be large the One half to be upper
leather well tanned and Curried the other halfe to be Sole leather to be paid at or before the last day of
August
ensueing the date hereof being for a valuable consideration in hand recd, in whereof I have here unto
Sett my hand and Seal this first day of July Anno Domini 1689 James: Barry. ? Sealed C

Know all men by these prsents that I Peter: Whaples of the County of Somerset and Province of Maryland
Cordweiner doe Oblige and bind my Selfe my Heirs, Execcutors Admrs. to deliver or cause to be delivered to
James: Berry his Heirs, Execcutors, or Admrs. the Obligation which James Berry hath passed to me dated July
the 1th. 1689 for fifty Six hides providing the sd James, doth pay at or before the dates of the sd Obligation the full
and entire quantity of twenty eight hides in good Order according as is mentioned in the sd Bond in wittness
whereof
I have hereunto Sett my hand and Seal. this first day of July. 1689 Peter: Whaples. ? Sealed
Charles: Tindall
Peter: Lowder.
December the 11: day Ano. Dom. 1689.

Received of James. Barry thirteen hides. and a half being upon the account of the bill
I say recd by me. Peter: Whaples.
Issue being Joynd pr.Attorneys mr. Jas: Sangster: & mr Edward: Jones.the matter referrerd to ye judgmt of the
Court
which sd Court having thorrowly Considered the premises. as also the Oath of Robert Catlin who made Oath for the plt deft
viz that Peter: Whaples would abate One hide to Berry in lieu of 200lb. of tobacco. and therefore the Court grants Order
agt sd Whaples Berry. for the remainder. which is 132: hides. ------ of tannd leather


John: Strawbridge. Plt. Somerset Ssc. Edward Jones. Attorney was attached to answer unto John
Contra. Strawbridge in an Action of the Case. And whereas the Plt doth appear in
his
Edward: Jones: Deft. propper person, and saith that the sd Edward:Jones doth detein and fraudulently
- - - - - - - - - - - - and unjustly keep from the plt One Servant woman named Mary Maxwell
ever
Since the 16th: day of July last past or thereabouts, thought often demanded by
the
plt, without any just Cause or colour of Reason, Only the sd Edward Jones
deceitfully
And fallaciously alleadgeth that he made a Swap with the plt by letting the plt have the tryal of One Margaret:Williams
Servant to the sd Edward: Jones. who was a poore indigent Sickly creature, and not able to do any manner of Service, she
having her death upon her when she came to the plt,she took her bed within 14:dayes after she came to the plt and
died

within Sixteen dayes after. Notwithstanding the plt denyeth that there was any swap made at all,but an intended
Swapp
which never was accomplisht, and what was done was not to continue but untill last August Court, unless the Swap or change
were perfected before the sd August Court, wherefore the plt saith, that he hath damage and is damnified to the value of Seven
