. Leave was granted to the Committee on Ways and Means
to introduce a bill, to add to Article 5 of the Code of Public
Local Laws for Calvert county, sections under the head of
"Collection of Taxes," providing for the collection of State
wad County taxes in the said county, and for the appointment
of a County Treasurer.
On motion of Mr. McOolgan,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Ways and Means
I "to introduce a bill, to repeal sections 37 to 40) inclusive, of
Article 56 of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled
"Licenses," and to re-enact the same with amendments.
On motion of Mr. Colton, of Baltimore City,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Pensions to intro-
-duce a bill, to pay Rev. Charles W. Rankin the balance of
pension due Sarah Wells, deceased.
On motion of Mr. Streett,
Leave was granted to the Committee on the Judiciary to
introduce a bill. to repeal section 15, Article 50 of the Code
of Public General Laws, title "Juries," and to re-enact the
name with amendments, giving to the State the right of challenge in certain criminal cases.
On motion of Mr. Porter,
Leave was granted to the Allegany delegation to intro-
duce a bill, entitled an Act to repeal the Act of 1870),
chapter 120. and to re-enact the same with amendments, re-
lating to Allegany county.
The Secretary of the Senate delivered the fol lowing message.

January 11th,1872.
'Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :
John W. Davis, Esq., having been elected State Treasurer,
we propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
that the presiding officers of the two Houses address to him
A joint letter informing him of his election.
