JOINT RESOLUTIONS
Assented to by the General Assembly of Maryland, at a Session
begun on the 3d day of January, 1872, and ended
on the 1st day of April, 1872.
No. 1.
He it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Senators and Representatives of the State
in the Congress of the United States, be requested
to exert their influence to obtain, at an early day, a
survey and report, under the direction of the Chief
of Engineers, to determine the extent of the harbor
at and near the mouth of the Patuxent River, its
depth of water, and adaptation to use in connection
with proposed railroads, as a station for taking in
coal and other supplies, and as a site for the erection
of works for building, fitting and repairing vessels of
all classes, both of the national and commercial
marine.

WHEREAS, The bars and impediments in the Pa-
tuxent River, in this State, are annually becoming
greater, and will soon seriously affect the important
trade in said river,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That our Senators in Congress are instructed, and
our Representatives requested, to use all proper
