lots, streets, lanes and alleys in said city, are as de-
scribed on the surveys and plats thereof, in the office
of the Register of Frederick city, and the said plats
and surveys shall be received at the boundaries of
-the lots, streets, lanes* alleys thereof.
SUB-SEC. 1. The Governor of the State of Mary-
land is hereby directed to appoint, on or before the
first day of June next, after the passage of this Act,
three discreet persons, tax-payers, who are citizens
of the State of Maryland, residents within the taxa-
ble limits of Frederick city, as Commissioners, whose
duty it shall be, and who, or a majority of whom, are
hereby authorized, empowered, and directed to lay
off' the said City of Frederick into ten wards and
"five aldermanic districts, each aldermanic district be
composed of two wards of contiguous and as nearly as
"may be compact territory, and the devisional lines be-
tween said wards shall run when ever practicable with
the central line of the streets, lanes and alleys of said
city.
SUB-SEC. 2. The said commissioners shall employ
a, competent surveyor, who shall survey the bounds
of each of said ten wards of said city, as laid off by
said commissioners, or a majority of them, and lie
shall make or caused to be made a correct certifi-
cate and plat of the survey of the boundaries
of said wards, with the streets, lanes and alleys
in each, under the direction of the said commission-
ers, or a majority of them; and the said commission-
ers or a majority of them shall, on or before the first
day of September, in the year eighteen hundred
and seventy-two, file the said certificate and plat of the
metes and bounds of said ten wards, with the streets,
lanes and alleys in each, with the Register of Fred-
erick city; which said certificate and plat, or any offi-
cial copy thereof, shall at all times, after it is filed
as aforesaid, be taken and received as evidence of
the boundaries of said wards, and as a substitute for
all certificates, surveys or plats, so far as the bound-
aries of the said wards are concerned; and no altera-
tion of the said certificate and plat shall be made
unless in accordance with a law of the General As-
sembly of Maryland authorizing the same.
