CHAPTER 311.
AX ACT to repeal section twelve, thirteen, four-
teen, fifteen and sixteen, of article twenty-one of
the Code of Public Local Laws, entitled Washing-
ton county, sub-title, "Almshouse," and re-enact
the following in lieu thereof:
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assemble of
Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for the
Board of County Commissioners of Washington
county to purchase a tract or tracts of land not ex-
ceeding two hundred acres, for the accommodation
of the poor of said county, at such time or times as
they may deem expedient after the passage of this
Act, and to erect thereon all proper and necessary
buildings, and the same to provide with all requisite
stock, farming utensils, and whatever in their judg-
ment the accommodation of the poor and the interest
of said county may require.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the said County
Commissioners, at such time and on such terms as
they shall deem expedient, may sell, exchange, or
otherwise dispose of the present poor house, and the
lots of ground thereto belonging, and apply the pro-
ceeds of such sale, exchange, or other disposition to
the payment of the debt which may be incurred
under the authority of the preceeding section.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the said County
Commissioners of said county may from time to time
prescribe the mode in which the products of said
farm shall be disposed of and accounted for by the
Trustees of the Poor, and for the management of the
lands and other property purchased under the
authority of this Act, as the comfort of the poor and
the interest of the county may require.
SEC. 4, And be it enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of said county be and they are hereby
authorized to levy upon the assessable property of
said county such sum or sums of money as may be
necessary to carry into effect the object of this Act.
