of perjury, and upon conviction thereof, shall he
punished as ill any other case of perjury.
SEC. 5. No person shall be entitled to any property
in the hands of the Fire Inspector, saved from fire,
until satisfactory proof of ownership be made, and
until all expenses for the preservation and keeping
of the same, shall be paid to him by the owner or
claimant of such property, and in case of dispute as
to the amount of such expenses, said dispute to he
determined by a Justice of the Peace of said city.
SEC. 6. The said Fire Inspector is hereby author-
ized and empowered to appoint one or more persons
to act as deputies during his absence, or to assist
1dm in discharge of his duties; and the said depu-
ties shall have all the authority invested in the Fire
Inspector by this Act, and the ordinances of the
Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, and the said
deputies shall act during the pleasure of the Fire
Inspector; and each deputy shall wear while in dis-
charge of his duty, conspicuously displayed on his
person, such badge or device as the Fire Inspector
shall designate.
SEC. 7. This Act shall not be so construed or
understood as to authorize the Fire Inspector to
interfere with or disregard the authority now vested
in the Board of' Fire Commissioners of the City of
Baltimore during the time of fire, by the ordinances
of the city.
SEC. 8. And be It enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its' passage.
