CHAPTER 230.
AN ACT to repeal sections one hundred and seven-
ty-one, one hundred and seventy-two, one hundred
and seventy-three, and one hundred and seventy-
four, of article sixteen, of the Code of Public
Local Laws, title Prince George's county, sub-title
" Sheriff','' and to re-enact sections one hundred
and seventv-one, one hundred and seventy-two,
; and one hundred mid seventy-three, of said article
with amendments.
SECTION' 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Man/land, That section-, one hundred and seventy-
one, one hundred and seventy-two, and one hundred
and seventy-three and one hundred and seventy-four, of article sixteen, of the Code of Public Local
Laws, title Prince George's county, sub-title "Sheriff',''
he and the same are hereby repealed, and sections
one hundred and seventy-one, one hundred and
seventy-two, and one hundred and seventy-three of
said article, be and the same are hereby re-enacted,

so as to read as follows:
SEC. 171. That the Sheriff of the said county shall
be allowed forty cents a day for keeping and support-
ing each person committed to the jail of said county
for breach of the peace, or any criminal offence, to
be levied and paid by the County Commissioners.
SEC. 172. He shall be entitled for the delivery and
transportation from Upper Marlboro to the State
Penitentiary, of every person convicted by the Cir-
cuit Court for said county, or any other tribunal, and
sentenced to said penitentiary, to receive a sum not
to exceed in any case twenty-five dollars for each and
every person so delivered and transported, to be
levied and paid by the County Commissioners; and
the said County Commissioners may allow such
smaller compensation for such duty, graduating the
allowance according to the number of convicts car-
ried to the penitentiary, as in their judgment may
be adequate.
