the first section of this Act.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 217.
AN ACT to repeal section seven, of an Act passed
at January session, eighteen hundred and seventy,
chapter three hundred and eighty-seven, entitled
an Act to Incorporate the Washington, Colesville
and Ashton Turnpike Company, and to re-enact
the same so as to read as follows:
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section seven, of an Act passed at
January session, eighteen hundred and seventy,
chapter three hundred and eighty-seven, entitled an
Act to incorporate the Washington, Colesville and
Ashton Turnpike Company, be and the same is
hereby repealed, and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That whenever the Wash-.
ington, Colesville an Ashton Turnpike Company
shall have completed three or more miles of road,
the said company may erect one or more toll-gates
upon said road at such places, and at such distances
apart, as may be deemed best for the interest of said
company, and may demand and receive toll not
exceeding two cents per mile for any vehicles drawn
by two animals, one cent per mile for every additional
animal; for any vehicle drawn by one animal, one
cent per mile; for every score of sheep, swine or
cattle, three cents per mile, and the same proportion
for any less number; for every horse and rider, or
