gess and Commissioners, for a period not exceeding
thirty days, but no fine or forfeiture shall, under any
ordinance of said corporation, exceed the sum of
twenty dollars; and the Sheriff" of said county shall
receive and safe keep such person, according to the
tenor of the commitment, and shall be entitled to his
usual fees, to be paid by the corporation, if such per-
son so committed is unable to pay said fine, penalty,.
forfeiture and costs.
SUB-SEC. 1. And be it enacted. That the Burgess and
Commissioners of said town shall have power to wi-
den, open and keep open streets, lanes and alleys
upon paying damages for any private property that
may be taken for the purpose, said damages to be
assessed by three disinterested persons, citizens of
the town, to be appointed by said Burgess and Com-
missioners; and the said Burgess and Commissioners
are further authorized to provide for the compensa-
tion of said. damages, by assessing and levying either
generally upon the whole assessable property of the
town, or specially on the property of persons benefitted,
for the whole or any part of the amount of said dam-
ages and costs.
SUB-SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That it shall not be
lawful for any person, whether licensed to sell
spirituous liquors or not, to sell, dispose of, barter or
give, within the corporate limits of the town of New
Windsor, or within one mile thereof, any spirituous
or fermented liquors of any kind, or in any quantity
whatever, to any youth or minor, under the age of
twenty-one years, without the written order from
the parent or guardian of such minor, and any person
violating the provisions of tins section shall be liable to indictment in the Circuit Court for Carroll county,.
and upon the conviction thereof, shall be fined a sum
not less than fifty dollars, nor more than two hundred
dollars, for each offence, and to be confined in the
jail of said county until said fines are paid.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
