association, or company of which he is an officer,
shall forfeit and pay to the State of Maryland the
sum of five hundred dollars.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take
effect from and after the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 91.
AN ACT to repeal section three of article eleven
of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled
" Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in fact," and
re-enact the same with an amendment.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That section three of article eleven, of the
Code of Public General Laws, entitled "Attorneys
at Law and Attorneys in fact," be and the same is
hereby repealed, and re-enacted with an amendment
so as to read as follows:
SEC. 3. Upon every such application/or any white
male citizen of Maryland, above the age of twenty-
one years, and who shall have been a student of law
in any part of the United States, for at least two
years previous to said application, it shall be the duty
of the Court to whom such application snail be made
to examine said applicant upon some day during the
the regular session thereof, touching his qualification
for admission as an Attorney; and they shall also
require and receive evidence of his probity and
general character; and if upon such actual examina-
tion and being satisfied that he has been a student
of law at least two years as aforesaid, and having
heard evidence of his probity and general character,
tile said Court shall be of the opinion that said appli-
cant is qualified to discharge the duties of an Attor-
ney, and worthy to be admitted, they shall admit him,
and the said Court are authorized to admit to prac-
