1872.] OF THE SENATE. 749 Mr. Fields submitted the following amendment: AMENDMENT PROPOSED. Chapter 18, section 4, line 4, strike out all after the word "children," to the end of the section. Which was read and adopted. Said bill, as amended, was then read the third time and. passed by yeas and nays, as follows : AFFIRMATIVE. Messrs. Blake Longwell, Compton, Spates, Carroll, Sellman, Claggett, Spencer, Downs, Steiner, Dennis, Tuck, Earle, Wilson, Fields, Williams—17. Jump, NEGATIVE—None. Said bill was then returned to the House of Delegates. Mr. Steiner submitted the following order : Order, That it be entered upon the Journal, that Mr. Steiner, while voting affirmatively on the School bill, pro- tests against that feature which provides for the appointment of the County School Commissioners by the Judges of the Circuit Courts. Which was read and adopted. Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, reported favor- ably, The House bill entitled an Act to pay the claim of George C. Merrick, State's Attorney for Prince George's county, Said bill was then read the second time. Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, to whom was referred the The House bill entitled an Act to approve and confirm an ordinance of the City of Baltimore, approved on the 24th day of June, 1871, entitled an ordinance to condemn and close McEldery street, between Register and Wolfe streets, and Ann street, between Jefferson and Monument streets, Reported favorably thereon.
