1872.] OF THE SENATE. 485 Which was read and laid on the table. Mr. Denson submitted the following communication from the Mayor of the City of Baltimore: MAYOR'S OFFICE, BALTIMORE, March 15, 1872. To the General Assembly of Maryland : GENTLEMEN :—I herewith transmit to your Honorable Body a certified copy of a resolution of the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, entitled a "Resolution remonstrating against the increase of pay to Police Force," and respectfully submit the matter to the consideration of the General Assem- bly of Maryland. I have the honor to be, very respectfully, Your obedient servant, JOSHUA VANSANT, Mayor. Resolution remonstrating against the increase of pay to Police Force: Resolved, by the Mayor and both Branches of the City Council of Baltimore, That it is inexpedient at this time, to increase the weekly pay from $18 to $20 of the Metropolitan Polka? Force, in our City, as is proposed in the bill now before the General Assembly of Maryland, and that our Honorable Sen- ators and Delegates be earnestly requested to vote against, and to use their influence to defeat the same.
