THURSDAY, March 14, 1872.
The Senate met.
Prayer by Rev. Father Freitag.
Present at roll call, the following Senators :
Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, Carroll, Crawford,
Denson, Davis, Dennis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Long-
well, Miller, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Spencer, Steiner,
Timmons, Tuck, Wilson, Williams—22.
The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.
Mr. Spates presented the petition of John G. Greenfield,.
and seventy-eight others, asking certain relief for the officers and men of the Fifteenth Infantry Regiment, for services.
rendered in guarding Allegany County Jail, in March, 1870,
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.
On motion by Mr. Denson,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill supplemental to the Act relating to the tax on
Collateral Inheritance, Distributive Shares and Legacies-,
passed March 7th, 1864, chapter 200.
On motion by Mr. Steiner,
Leave wag granted to the Committee on the Library to
introduce a bill, entitled an Act for the benefit of the Pea-
body Institute of the City of Baltimore.
Mr. Dennis presented the following preamble and resolu-
tions :
RESOLUTIONS.
At a meeting of German citizens, held in the Maryland
Institute, March 6th, 1172, the following resolutions were
adopted:
WHEREAS, certain opponents of the Sunday Law of Mary-
land, have assumed to represent the common sentiment of
the German citizens in Baltimore ; therefore, be it
.Resolved, That this meeting utterly disclaims any sym-
pathy with any movement to relax or repeal those laws ; but
on the contrary, earnestly remonstrates against such action.
