Which was read the first time.
On motion by Mr. Downs,
Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to intro-
duce a bill to refund to Francis M. Goddard and Charles L.
Fowler, of St. Mary's county, late collectors of State taxes,
certain sums of money by them erroneously paid into the
Treasury.
Mr, Timmons, from a Select Committee, to which leave had
been granted, reported
A hill, entitled an Act to amend section 40, of Article
XX IN., of the Acts of 1863, title "Worcester County," sub-
title ''Elections," by changing the name of Sandy Hill Dis-
trict to the name of Stockton District.
Which was read the first time,
Mr. Tuck. from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings, to
which had been re-committed Senate bill, entitled an Act to
amend and re-enact section 139, of the Code of Public Gene-
ral Laws, relating to the Bonds of Trustees, reported said bill
with an amendment.
Which was adopted, and
Said bill, as amended, was read the second time and ordered
to be engrossed fur a third reading.
Mr. Tuck presented the petition of the Annapolis Water
Company, asking assistance. *
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.
Hon. J. T. Mason, Secretary of State, appeared and deliv-
ered a communication from his Excellency, Governor Whyte,
endorsed, "Executive Business,"
On motion by Mr. Stephenson,
The Senate proceeded to the consideration of Executive
business.
The Senate having resumed the consideration of Legisla-
tive business.
Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, to which had.
been referred
Senate bill, entitled an Act to provide for the levying and
collection of a tax on the transportation of Coal mined in this
State and and transported. from the mines for' sale.
Also,
Senate bill, entitled an Act to tax the gross receipts of
Railroad Companies in this State,
