1872.] OF THE SENATE. 207 WEDNESDAY, February 14, 1872. The. Senate met. Prayer by Rev. Dr. Henderson. Present at roll call the following Senators : Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, Oarroll, Claggett Denson, Davis, Fields, Henry, Jump, Longwell, Miller, Stephenson, Spates, Sellman, Spencer, Steiner, Timmons, Tuck, Williams—20. The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved. Mr. Spencer presented the petition of Mollie E. Jedefind, Thomas W. Pinkind, and forty-seven other citizens of Kent county, praying the passage of a law in relation to drinking: houses, Which was read and referred to Messrs. Spencer, Field® and Sellman. Mr. Steiner presented the petition of W. H. Damuth, and two hundred and forty-eight other citizens of Mechanicstown District, of Frederick county, praying the passage of a Gen- eral Law enabling the voters of any district to determine, by ballot, whether drinking houses shall be licensed in such district. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ju- dicial Proceedings. Mr. Tuck presented the petition of the trustees, stock- holders and patrons of the Anne Aruudel Academy, praying assistance from the' State to enable them to rebuild the academy recently destroyed by fire. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi- nance. Mr. Fields presented the remonstrance of L. H. O. Davis, B. Lewis, Thos. F. Williams, and forty other citizens of Caroline county, against the passage of a law preventing stock from running upon the highways of said county. Which was read and referred to Messrs. Fields, Compton and Henry. On motion by Mr. Steiner, Leave "at granted to the Committee heretofore appointed upon the same subject, to introduce a bill, entitled an Act to |
