On motion by Mr. Spates, Leave was granted to Messrs. Spates, Carroll and Tim-mons, to prepare! and report a bill, to authorize the Agricul- tural and Mechanical society of 'Allegany county, West Vir- ginia and Pennsylvania, to issue additional coupon bonds and secure the payment thereof. Air. Williams submitted the following Joint Resolution requesting the Senators and members of the House of Repre- sentatives from Maryland to use their influence to have a survey made of the harbor at the mouth of the Patuxent river : Be it .Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Senators and Representatives of the State in the Congress of the United States, be requested to exert their influence to obtain, at an early day, a survey and report, under the direction of the Chief Engineers, to determine the extent of the harbor at and near the mouth of the Patuxent river, its depth of water and adaptation to use, in connection with proposed railroads, us a station for taking in coal and other supplies, and as a site for the erection of works tor building, fitting and repairing vessels of all classes, both of the National and Commercial marine. Which was read the first time. On motion by Mr. Timmons, Leave was granted to the Committee on the Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries to prepare and report a bill, regula- ting the length of fishing nets in Synapuxent Bay and its Tributaries. Mr, Wilson presented a petition from Isaac Scaggs, pray- ing that a sum of money erroneously paid into the Treasury of Maryland, be refunded to him. Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance. Mr. Fields submitted the following message : BY THE SENATE, January loth, 1872. Gentlemen of the House of Delegates : We propose with the concurrence of your Honorable Body, the appointment of a Joint Committee to consist of five mem- bers on the part of the Senate, one to be selected from each of the present Congressional districts of the State, and five members on the part of the House of Delegates, to be selected |
