On motion by Mr. Stephenson, it was Ordered, That the Governor's Message be referred to a Select Committee of five, whose duty it shall to report the reference of its several subject to appropriate committees The Chair appointed Messrs Stephenson, Spates, Tuck, Miller and Dennis as said. committee. Solomon E, Smith, appointed -Journal Clerk, appeared, qualified and entered upon the discharge of his duties. On motion by Mr. Dennis, The Senate adjourned. TUESDAY, January 9th, 1872. Senate met pursuant to adjournment. Present at roll call the following Senators : Messrs. President, Blake, Compton, Oarroll, Crawford, Claggett, Denson, Davis, Downs, Dennis, Earle, Fields, Henry, Jump, Stephenson, Sellman, Spencer, Steiner, Tim- mons. Tuck, Williams—21. The Journal of Friday was read and approved. The President announced the following Standing Commit- tees : Committee on Finance.—Messrs. Earle, Carroll, Stephen- son, Claggett, Williams Committee on Judicial Proceedings.—Messrs. Tuck, Mil- ler, Henry, Williams, Claggett. Committee on Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries,—Messrs.
