At 1 1/2 o'clock, P. M., the Senators returned to the Senate
Chamber, and resumed the consideration of Legislative busi-
ness.
A communication was received from his Excellency, Gover-
nor Bowie, by the hands of Richard J. Hollyday, Esq., Secretary of State.
Endorsed "on Executive business."
On motion by Mr. Stephenson. it was
Ordered, That all proceedings in Joint Convention of the
Senate and House of Delegates, be entered on the Journal of
the Senate at large, by the Secretary.
On motion by Mr. Earle,
The Senate proceeded to the consideration of Executive
business, and after a time, resumed the consideration of Legis-
lative business.
On motion by Mr. Earle, it was
Ordered, That a committee of three be appointed by the
Chair to make arrangements for the inauguration of the
Governor elect.
The Chair appointed Messrs. Earle, Compton and Dennis
as said committee.
The Clerk of the House of Delegates delivered the follow-
ing message:
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 5th, 1872,
Gentlemen of the Senate :
The Hon. W. Pinkney Whyte having been elected (governor of this State, we propose with the concurrence of "^ur
Honorable Body, the appointment of a Joint Committee of
of the two Houses, three on the part of the House and two on
the part of the Senate, to wait upon him and request his at-
tendance on Wednesday, 10th inst., at 2 o'clock, P. M., in
the Senate Chamber, to qualify according to the Constitution
and form of Government of this State. We have appointed
Messrs. Chapman, Eareckson and Routzahn, as said commit-
tee on the part of the House of Delegates, to meet such gen-
tlemen as may be selected by your Honorable Body.
