one hundred and forty-nine other citizens, asking the abol-
ishment of coopering in the Penitentiary.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Manu-
factures.
Mr. Rowe presented the petition of Samuel Maxwell,
Thomas Fraley ami .seventy-five others, asking a change in
the School Law, to have the Commissioners and Trustees of
Public Schools elected by the people.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion. '
Mr. Whitson presented thy petition of George Freaner,
John Welt}, H. A. McComas, S. E. Mittag and forty-two
other citizens of Washington (.county. praying lor an Act to
abolish or change the present law, regarding the selling of
liquors to minors.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on the
Judiciary.
Mr. Ardinger presented the petition of David Zellers, -Jo-
seph B. Loose, J. H. Dorsey, Henry M. Zellers and six hun-dred and eighty-one others, praying the passage of a general
law, to enable the qualified voters of any ward, within the
State, to determine, by ballot, whether drinking houses may
or may nut hi licensed within such districts under existing
law, and in all districts voting against such license to pro-
hibit the sale of such drink-;, except for medical or mechanical purposes. under sever? penalty.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.
Sir. Polk presented the petition of Susan Little, of Carroll
county, and others, asking for pay for armory rent.
Which was lead, and referred to the Committee on Militia.
Mr. Phillips presented the petition of fifty-nine citizens of
Frederick county, protesting against the passage of a law [licit
will remove the control of the Almshouse from the board of
County Commissioners of said county.
Which was read, and referred to the Select; Committee on
that subject.
Mr, Miller presented the petition of Alfred Hobbs, Moses
Douty and eighty other citizens of New Marked and Liberty
Districts, in Frederick county, asking for a new Election Dis-
trict in said county.
