January 23rd, 1872.
Gentlemen of the Senate :
We propose, with the concurrence of your Honorable Body,
the appointment of a Joint Committee consisting of three on
the part of the House and two on the part of the Senate, to con-fer upon the proposed Senate action adopting an amendment
to House Resolutions, entitled "Resolutions to authorize the
Governor to employ additional counsel, it in his judgment the
same may be necessary, to defend the State's interest in the
suit now pending in the Territory of Columbia, between W
W. Corcoran and the C1 Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company
which amendment the Mouse has refused;! to concur in.
We have appointed on the part of the House, Messrs Streett
Stone and Groome

Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.
Mr. Miller, (the rules being suspended,) presented the
Annual Report. of the Maryland Institution for (lie Educa-
tion of the Deaf and Dumb.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.
The Senate bill, entitled an Act to confirm and approve an
Act, passed January Session, 1870, chapter 2, entitled an
Act to authorize the County Commissioners of Frederick
county (to subscribe to the stock "of turnpike companies in
Frederick county,
Was read a third time and passed by yeas and nays, as
