set Railroad Company, to the amount of five thousand dol-
lars.
Said bill being upon a third reading,
On motion of Mr. Franklin,
The further consideration thereof was postponed, and the
bill recommited to the Select Committee reporting the
same.
On motion of Mr. Streett, (the rules being suspended,)
The House proceeded to the consideration of
The bill entitled an Act making further appropriations
for the support of the Government for the year ending the
first day of January, 1874.
Said bill being upon a second reading,
On motion of Mr. Streett,
The further consideration thereof was postponed, and the
bill recommitted to the Committee reporting the same.
On motion of Mr. Streett, (the rules being suspended,)
The House proceeded to the consideration of
The bill entitled an Act making further appropriations for
the support of the Government for the year ending January
the first, 1873.
Said bill being upon a second reading,
On motion of Mr. Street,
The further consideration thereof was postponed, and the
hill recommitted to the Committee reporting the same.
The hour of 8 P. M. having arrived, the House proceeded
to the consideration of
The bill entitled an Act to repeal an Act passed at the
January Session of 1870, entitled an Act to repeal an Act
passed at the January Session of 1868, title "Public Educa-
tion," providing a general system of Free Public Schools for
the State of Maryland, and to repeal all laws inconsistent
therewith, and to re-enact the same with amendments.
Said bill being upon a second reading,
Mr. Bond submitted the following amendment;
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Amend chapter 2, section 2, in the 2nd line, strike out all
after the word "persons," and insert the following: "who
shall be elected, by a majority of the legally constituted
