1060 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 22, 'Which was read and referred. to the Select Committee on that subject, On motion of Mr. Sasscer, (the rules being suspended,) Leave was granted to the Prince George's delegation to introduce a bin to create an additional Election District in Prince George's county. On motion of Mr. Streett, (the rules being suspended,) Leave was granted to the Harford delegation to introduce a bill to repeal section 2, of chapter 365, of the Act of 1870, entitled, an Act to incorporate the Harford County Railroad Company. On motion of Mr. Penington, Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to introduce a bill to authorize the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore to endorse the first mortgage bonds of the Balti- more and Drum Point Railroad Company. The Chair laid. before the House the following communica- tion 'from the Son. Joshua Vansant, Mayor of the City of Baltimore: MAYOR'S OFFICE, Baltimore, March 22, 1872. To the Honorable the General Assembly of Maryland: GENTLEMEN—In accordance with the request of the City Council of Baltimore I herewith enclose resolutions of said body adapted on the 21st of March inst., in reference to cer- tain measures now pending in the General Assembly of Mary- land, of importance to the interests of Baltimore City, I have the honor to be, with the highest regard, Your obedient servant, JOSHUA VANSANT, Mayor. Also, the following RESOLUTION. Resolution requesting the Legislature to give power to the authorities of Baltimore City, to assist the General Govern- ment in deepening the Harbor: > Resolved, by both Branches of the City Council of Baltimore That the requisite powers in the corporate authorities of the City to make appropriations, and levy taxes for the purpose of providing, if necessary,for any deficiency in the amount -given by the General Government towards the expenses of deepening the cnanel of the River Pay approaching the Harbor of Baltimore may be of vital importance to the trade and prosperity of the City and State in the next two years. |
