AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Section 1, line 34, after the word " miles," insert the fol
lowing words, *' and where the distance shall exceed ton'
miles, the gross sun hereby authorized to be charged, shall
not be less than the sum charged for ten miles,
Which, was adopted.
Mr. Penington submitted the following amendment;
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.
Section 1. Strike out all after the word (< Company," ii
line 23, down to the word "miles," inclusive, in the 28th
line, and insert the following words: Not exceeding five
cents per tan per mile, when the same is transported a dis
tance of thirty miles or more, and in case the same is trans
ported for a less distance than thirty miles, six per cent. per
ton may be charged, as provided in the Act of 1870, chapter
476, section 334.
Pending which,
Mr. Griswold, (the rules being suspended) submitted the
following order:
Ordered, That a special committee of three be appointee
to examine into the receipts and expenditures of the Cum
berland and Pennsylvania Railroad Company, from 1860 to
the present time, with power to send for persons and papers
and to report the result to this House at the earliest praoti
cable moment, and that in the meantime the consideration of
House bill No. 126 on the printed file be postponed.
"Which was considered.
Mr. Smith, (the rules being suspended,) submitted, the
following order:
Ordered, That this House take a recess at 3 o'clock, P
M., this day, until 8 P. M.
Which was read.
The question recurring upon the adoption of the order,
Mr. Smith demanded the yeas and nays,
The demand being sustained,
The yeas and. nays were called, and appeared as follows
