The Commissioner would, respectfully, submit that a Joint
Committee of the Senate and House be appointed to examine
the condition of the office, and report what legislation they
may deem necessary.

Mr. Martin submitted the following message :

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

March 4th, 1870.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We respectfully propose, with the concurrence of your
Honorable Body, the appointment of a Join.fr Committee of
the two Houses, to consist of fire on the part of the House
and three on the part of the Sepate, to examine the condition
of the Land Office, and report to this General Assembly
what legislation they may deem necessary. We have ap-
pointed on the part of the House Messrs. Martin, Standish,
Ritter, Beck and Baldwin, of Harford.

Chief Clerk.

Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.

The Speaker laid before the House the report of the Board
of Benificence, St. John's Independent Methodist Protestant
Church of Baltimore city.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.

Mr. Wiley presented the following petitions :

The petition of N. P. Campbell, and 16 others, Presidents
of the Baltimore Fire Insurance Companies, praying for the
passage of a bill now before the Committee on Inspections,
relating to the inspection of Petroleum, &c.

Also,

The petition of Wm. Bridges and 327 others, merchants
and citizens of Baltimore, praying for the passage of a bill
now before the Committee on Inspections, relating to the In-
spection of Petroleum, &c.

Which were severally read aud referred to the Committee
on Inspections.

Mr. Shipley presented the petition of D. M. Matthews,
Oliver Smith and 150 others, asking the passage of a law to
regulate the running at large of Stock, in Baltimore county.
