So the amendment was rejected.

Mr. Kilbourn submitted the following amendment :

Sec. 2, line 8, after the word "recovered," insert: and if
any parent or guardian shall, after the time at which this law
shall go into operation, require or permit his or her children
or ward, under the age of sixteen years, to work in any cot-
ton or woolen factory of this State for more than ten hours
per day, that in every such case of such requirement or per-
mission, the said parent or guardian shall be liable to a fine
of one hundred dollars, to be recovered as other fines are re-
covered.
